On rehearsing arguments in the shower

I am very good at winning fights that have not happened. I am average at the ones that have. There is no theory here. It is just embarrassing.

I won an argument in the shower this morning that I have not yet had with anyone.

I was brilliant. I was crisp. I had, by the end of the second rinse, demolished the other party so completely that they had, in my head, conceded with grace and an apology. I felt, for a moment, magnificent.

I will not win this argument in real life. I have never, in the long history of my showers, won a single argument I had rehearsed in one. The fights, when they come, are softer, more annoying, more about a slightly different thing than I had prepared for. I leave them feeling slightly soggy, in a different way.

↳ I am, it turns out, the only audience the rehearsed self has.

There is no theory here. It is just embarrassing. I felt it was important, in the spirit of the place, to put it down anyway.

— end.

Got a theory three?
